Novalis

Ok so this was bad I didn’t get a thing about this passage! I have no idea how he thinks when we dream we are dreaming we are close to waking up??? Really explain this to me Novalis because it doesn’t make sense at all to me. Say what you need to say man I’m not going to judge you I just want to know what you think. I didn’t enjoy this reading at all. I guess I got when hw said we are alone when we are with everything we love because most the things people love leave them empty and not satisfied… so I liked his point here. I have no idea why this guy thinks that marriage is a mystery. Is there something Im not getting about it?

  1. Hmm, I like what you said about how what people love tend to leave them empty and unsatisfied, it's true, and I hadn't looked at it that way. When Novalis was telling us that Marriage is a Mystery, I took it as him questioning the institution of marriage. If you really take a look at it, why do you need a piece of paper and a priest to tell you that you are a couple with the one that you love? Marriage just acts as a covenant between two people. But can't you have that same kind of committment with the person you love, minus the term "marriage"? It isn't the marriage that makes you happy, it's the relationship. I know some relationships where the people are deeply committed to eachother, and some marriages where the couple could use a hell of a lot of work on their relationship.

  2. The idea of marriage to me is also the sworn oath and commitment in front of God and man a binding contract between two people and God. It solidifies a relationship. We live in a day where a mans oath means nothing that is why marriage is overlooked.
